CONCORD, N.C., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Jamie McMurray, a championship non-contender, collected his third victory of the year Saturday, taking the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
McMurray grabbed the lead after the final restart with 21 laps remaining, passing Kyle Busch and pulling away from the field to claim his sixth career Sprint Cup Series victory.
McMurray added Charlotte to wins earlier this year at the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.
Kyle Busch finished second after leading for the most laps, holding off Jimmie Johnson at the end.
The third-place showing allowed Johnson to post a 41-point advantage over Denny Hamlin in the championship points race.
Hamlin finished fourth and Greg Biffle grabbed the fifth spot.
