NASHVILLE, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Brooks Laich connected on a power-play goal 1:44 into overtime Saturday, handing the Washington Capitals a 3-2 win over Nashville.

The winning score came after Alexander Ovechkin unleashed a slap shot from the point that Laich got a stick on and deflected over Predators goaltender Anders Lindback and into the net.

Nashville blew a two-goal, third-period lead in the setback. Alexander Semin and Tomas Fleischmann got the key late goals and Michal Neuvirth stopped 37 shots in the Caps' fifth straight win against Nashville.

The Preds got goals from J.P. Dumont and Jordin Tootoo.

Lindback ended with 31 saves in the defeat.
