Martin charges into Portugal Open lead

VILAMOURA, Portugal, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Pablo Martin charged into the lead of the Portugal Open Saturday, carding a 9-under 63 to go three strokes ahead after three rounds.

Martin's fine round allowed him to end the day at 18-under 198, three shots better than Jeppe Huldahl and Oliver Wilson.

The Spaniard -- who claimed his first tour win three years ago at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course in Portugal -- finished only two strokes shy of the 54-hole tournament record.

Huldahl registered the day's best round of 11-under 61 and completed three rounds tied with Wilson (65) in second place at 15-under 201.

Knotted for fourth place were Thomas Aiken (65) and Mikko Ilonen (69), while second-round leader Maarten Lafeber slipped to an even-par 72 and into a share of sixth place at 13-under 203.
