Dominic Moore broke a 1-1 tie with a backhander late in the second period and Kubina's slapshot 1:27 into the third gave the Lightning a 3-1 advantage.

Danny Briere brought the Flyers back within one midway through the third but Dan Ellis was perfect the rest of the way in handing Philadelphia its first regulation loss of the season.

It was the first start in a Tampa Bay uniform for Ellis, who played the last three seasons with Nashville and who stopped 24 shots Thursday. Brian Boucher made 21 saves in the loss.

Tampa Bay forward Simon Gagne, who played in Philadelphia during the previous 10 campaigns, had one shot over 19 minutes of action in his return to his former home.
