EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said Wednesday he could miss his first start in 313 straight games if his ailing elbow keeps hurting.

Favre holds the NFL record for consecutive games played but indicated that could come to an end Sunday if the tendinitis in his throwing elbow affects his accuracy the way it did in Monday night's loss to the New York Jets, The (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported.

"You're not going to make every throw but I would have made some of those throws," Favre told reporters during his weekly news conference in Eden Prairie, Minn. "From that standpoint, I don't want to play just to play."

Favre appeared at the conference with a wrap around his elbow, the newspaper said. He admitted that he probably should have sat out some games two years ago when he was with the Jets instead of battling through a partially torn biceps tendon.

"Pitchers get it all the time, as a quarterback it's a lot like a receiver or a running back, you get nagging issues or your legs or whatever that poses a problem," he said. "I had tendinitis (in 2000) and I was out all of camp."
