SHANGHAI, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych claimed a solid second-round victory Tuesday at the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament.

Berdych said he was suffering stomach problems prior to the match by still made quick work of Tommy Robredo, winning 6-0, 6-4. Berdych allowed Robredo only six points on serve in the first set and cruised on three service breaks in the second set.

A good portion of Tuesday's schedule was lost to rain, but seven first-round winners were determined. That included 10th-seeded Andy Roddick advancing when, after Roddick built a 6-3, 2-1 lead, Phillip Kohlschreiber was forced to retire. Also, 11th-seeded David Ferrer topped Michael Llodra 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.

Daniel Gimeno-Traver, inserted into the draw when Mardy Fish withdrew, rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Denis Istomin. Gimeno-Traver lost his serve just once in 13 games.

Wild-card entrant Yan Bai ousted Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-4 by converted all four break points chances he had and Janko Tipsarevic beat Andrey Golubev by the same score.

The other completed matches Tuesday saw John Isner fire off 24 aces en route to a 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (9-7) win over Lukasz Kubot, who lost without dropping serve; and Ivan Ljubicic slip by Ze Zhang 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
