BRIDGEVIEW, Ill., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Peter Lowry and Brian McBride scored Friday to give Chicago a 2-0 win over Columbus and keep the Fire's slim playoff hopes alive.

Chicago (8-11-8) moved within eight points of San Jose for the eighth and final playoff spot in MLS. The Fire has three games remaining and San Jose has four.

Columbus (13-8-7) has clinched a post-season berth, but missed a chance to move past New York into first place in the Eastern Conference.

Lowry scored his sixth goal of the season in the 30th minute and McBride tallied just after halftime, his fifth of the year.

Patrick Nyarko assisted on both goals, running his total to 14.
