ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- C.J. Wilson gave up two hits Thursday, helping Texas to a 6-0 win over Tampa Bay and a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five American League playoff series.

Wilson allowed a single to Jason Bartlett leading of the Rays' first and a seventh-inning double by Willy Aybar but Tampa Bay didn't have another hit. As a result, the Rangers are one win from advancing to the AL Championship Series.

Game 3 of their division series is Saturday in Arlington, Texas.

Wilson (1-0) allowed just six base runners in 6 1/3 innings. He walked two, hit one and struck out seven. Darren O'Day got one out and Darren Oliver pitched the final 2 1/3 innings in completing the shutout.

Matt Treanor scored on a throwing error in the third inning and Ian Kinsler added a solo home run in the fourth off Tampa Bay starter James Shields (0-1).

Texas broke the game open in the fifth with a three-run home run by Michael Young and Kinsler's run-scoring single that made the score 6-0.

Young's home run came one pitch after a disputed checked swing that would have been strike three but was called no swing on appeal to first base umpire Jerry Meals. Television replays suggested the call was incorrect.

After the home run, Tampa Bay Manager Joe Maddon argued and was thrown out of the game.
