CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The Carolina Panthers said Tuesday wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett has been cut following his second arrest for driving under the influence.

The Panthers' Web site said only that Jarrett had been placed on waivers and that they picked up wide receiver David Clowney off waivers from the New York Jets.

The Charlotte Observer reported Jarrett, 24, was pulled over by Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) police shortly after 2 a.m. EDT Tuesday on Interstate 77 for a speeding infraction, then was charged with DUI when the officer found probable cause.

Police said after Jarrett refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the county jail, he was taken to a hospital for a blood-alcohol test. He was freed on $2,000 bond.

The player pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after being arrested by police in the Charlotte-area town of Mint Hill on March 11, 2008. Following that conviction, the NFL required he undergo regular drug and alcohol testing.

Jarrett had two catches for 40 yards in the Panthers' season-opener and had gone without a reception since.

Jarrett had 35 catches for 428 yards and one touchdown in 32 games with Carolina since 2007.
