Titans coach fined for obscene gesture

NASHVILLE, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil has been fined $40,000 for flipping the bird to officials, the NFL announced Monday.

Cecil's obscene, middle-finger gesture was caught by television cameras during Tennessee's 26-20 loss to Denver Sunday, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported.

NFL officials said Cecil violated league rules prohibiting abusive, threatening or insulting gestures toward officials.

"I have discussed it with Chuck," Titans Coach Jeff Fisher told the newspaper during his Monday press briefing. "It was a heat of the battle thing. Clearly Chuck is an emotional individual, it was a heat of the battle thing and he got frustrated and he understands he has to maintain his composure.

"And we move on. We've moved on."

Fisher said Cecil wouldn't be suspended over the incident.
