Encarnacion is AL Player of Week

NEW YORK, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Edwin Encarnacion was named the American League Player of the Week Monday.

Encarnacion, 27, led the league with five home runs, 11 RBI and a 1.150 slugging percentage. For the week, he hit .400 and scored six runs.

He is the fourth Blue Jay to win the weekly honor this season.

Others considered for the final weekly honor of the season were Seattle's Justin Smoak, Baltimore's Brian Matusz and Koji Uehara, Kansas City's Kila Ka'aihue and Oakland's Mark Ellis.
