Gibson is a former player who logged 17 seasons in the majors (1979-95) with the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates. He compiled a career .268 batting average with 255 homers, 260 doubles and 870 RBI.

He won the National League Most Valuable Player award in 1988 with the Dodgers and is best known for smacking a game-winning, two-run homer off A's reliever Dennis Eckersley in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series.
