CARSON, Calif., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- David Beckham notched his first goal of the season and Edson Buddle added a score Sunday, leading the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-1 win over Chivas USA.
Buddle connected for his 15th goal this season -- the most in Major League Soccer -- in the 23rd minute, beating Chivas goalkeeper Zach Thornton to the bottom-left corner with a perfect finish.
Beckham added a free-kick goal in the 39th minute, taking advantage of a foul on Buddle just outside the box.
Los Angeles (16-6-5) rebuilt a two-point cushion in the Western Conference and overall standings after being overtaken Saturday by Real Salt Lake.
Alan Gordon scored for Chivas USA (7-15-4), which was officially eliminated from post-season contention with the loss.
