Haas rallies for Viking Classic victory

MADISON, Wis., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Bill Haas sank three birdies late in the round Sunday, rallying to claim a three-stroke victory at the Viking Classic in Mississippi.

Haas escaped with the win after blowing a comfortable lead, closing with an even-par 72 to finish at 15-under-par 273 at the Annandale Golf Club.

It was his second PGA Tour win of the year after also notching a victory in January at the Bob Hope Classic.

Michael Allen shared the lead after 12 holes, then slipped down the stretch with a double-bogey on the 13th and never recovered. He ended up posting a 1-under 71 to take second place at minus-12.

Knotted in third place were Brendon de Jonge (72) and D.J. Trahan (69) at 11-under 277.
