ST. LOUIS, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Jake Westbrook recorded nine strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings Friday and two relievers finished off a shutout to bring St. Louis a 3-0 win over Colorado.
Westbrook (4-4) limited the Rockies to four hits, helping the Cardinals win for the seventh time in nine games.
Trever Miller got the last out in the eighth inning and Ryan Franklin needed only eight pitches in a perfect ninth to collect his 27th save.
Westbrook singled in a run in the second, the only run St. Louis produced with a base hit. Allen Craig drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder in the first and Matt Pagnozzi had a squeeze bunt in the sixth.
Jorge De La Rosa (8-7) surrendered three runs on five hits in seven innings.
Colorado has lost 11 out of 12 in a late-season slump after briefly jumping into playoff contention with a 10-game winning streak.
