NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was named the NFC's offensive player of the week Wednesday.
Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware won the defensive award and Seattle Seahawks kick returner Leon Washington was the special teams honoree for the NFL's third week of play.
Peterson piled up 160 yards rushing and scored on 80-yard and 6-yard runs in Minnesota's 24-10 win over Detroit. It's the fourth time he has won the weekly award.
Ware had three sacks and finished with eight tackles in a 27-13 Dallas road win over Houston. He has won the award four times now.
Washington earned his second weekly award by running back kickoffs 101 and 99 yards for scores. He is the 10th player in NFL history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in one game.
