Vikings fullback Felton charged with DWI
WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- John Mayberry hit a three-run blast and Philadelphia scored all its runs on homers Wednesday in downing Washington 7-1.
Ben Francisco hit two home runs and Mike Sweeney added another, giving Philadelphia its 19th victory in its last 23 road games. The Phillies have won eight road series in a row.
Joe Blanton (9-6) gave up an unearned run on three hits with six strikeouts over seven innings to get the win.
Philadelphia came within one victory of equaling its all-time win total in September, turning in a 21-6 record for the month.
After a day off, the division-winning Phillies will play three games in Atlanta before opening their bid for a third straight National League title.
Sweeney and Francisco hit homers in the second inning and Mayberry gave Philadelphia a 5-0 lead with his shot in the fourth. Francisco added a two-run homer in the fifth.
Ross Detwiler (1-3) gave up all seven runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
It was the last home game of the season for the Nationals, who finished with a 41-40 record in Washington.
