
ST. LOUIS, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Garrett Jones went 3-for-5, including a homer, and drove in three runs Tuesday in the Pittsburgh Pirates' 7-2 victory over St. Louis.
Jones connected for a two-run blast in the first inning and added a sixth-inning RBI single for the Pirates, who evened their three-game series with the Cardinals
John Bowker socked a bases-clearing, pinch-hit double in the eighth to cap the Pirates' attack and starter Brian Burres (4-4) collected the victory, allowing two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Jeff Suppan (2-8) took the loss, yielding four runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Matt Pagnozzi homered for the Cards, who were mathematically eliminated from the National League Central title hunt Tuesday with Cincinnati's victory over Houston.
