Johnson keeps Chase hopes alive with win

DOVER, Del., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Jimmie Johnson kept his Sprint Cup championship hopes alive Sunday thanks to his victory in the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Johnson, who is seeking to extend his record-breaking four-year championship streak, started on the pole and led for 191 laps. It was his sixth victory of the season and 53rd of his Cup career, as well as his sixth at Dover.

Johnson jumped from sixth place to second in the Chase for the Sprint Cup standings with his convincing Dover victory. He now trails points leader Denny Hamlin by 35.

Hamlin finished ninth Sunday.

Jeff Burton came in second, while Joey Logano, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards rounded out the top five.
