FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Guillermo Barros Schelotto's goal on a penalty kick Saturday allowed Columbus to salvage a 2-2 tie with the New England Revolution.
New England had gone up 2-0 with a Pat Phelan goal in the 2nd minute and another score by Shalrie Joseph in the 56th minute.
The Revolution then let the Crew back into the game just 6 minutes later when New England's Corey Gibbs knocked the ball into his own net while defending Crew forward Steven Lenhart.
Schelotto forged the tie 10 minutes from time with his eighth goal of the year on a penalty kick after Joseph handled the ball in his team's penalty area.
Columbus (13-7-6) moved into first in the East, a point up on Red Bull New York, with four games left to play. The Revs (7-14-5) watched their playoff hopes fall into serious doubt.
