SAN DIEGO, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Miguel Tejada hit a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning Friday and San Diego kept pace in the National League West with a 4-3 win over Cincinnati.

Trailing 3-2 entering the frame, the Padres put two runners on with two outs against Arthur Rhodes (4-4). Nick Masset came in to pitch and, after walking David Eckstein to load the bases, took Tejeda to a 3-2 count before the veteran slugger shot a grounder through the hole, driving in two runs.

Luke Gregerson (4-7) was credited with the win and Heath Bell tossed a scoreless ninth for his 44th save to nail down the key victory, which kept the second-place Padres within a half-game of first-place San Francisco in the NL West.

Bronson Arroyo allowed a pair of runs on five hits over five innings for the Reds, whose magic number to claim the NL Central crown remained at three with the setback.

Drew Stubbs hit a solo homer for Cincinnati.
