
ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Alex Rios lined an RBI single in the ninth inning Friday, lifting the Chicago White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
With the score tied 1-1, Juan Pierre drew a one-out walk and Omar Vizquel singled off Angels closer Fernando Rodney (4-3). Rios followed by smacking a pitch up the middle to score Pierre without a throw.
Matt Thornton (5-4) made the lead hold up by tossing a 1-2-3 ninth, handing the White Sox a victory in the first of three games at Angels Stadium.
Paul Konerko homered and Chisox starter Freddy Garcia held Los Angeles to one run on four hits over six innings.
Joel Pineiro threw eight innings of one-run ball for the Angels, scattering four hits.
Torii Hunter drove in the Halos' only run with a fourth-inning RBI single.
