FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- New England running back Kevin Faulk has a torn ligament in his right knee and will miss the rest of the 2010 NFL season, the Patriots said Wednesday.

Fault, 34, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the fourth quarter of New England's 28-14 loss Sunday to the New York Jets. He said he'll have surgery "in about a month" and will determine his playing future after rehabilitation.

"When it first happened, when I first kind of had an idea, I was sad, cried a whole lot but hey, it's life. You have to deal with it," Faulk said. "You get knocked off the road sometimes. It's how you get back on and how you deal with it as a person."

Faulk, a 12-year NFL veteran, has rushed for 3,550 yards and 16 touchdowns over his career, which has been entirely with New England. He's also caught 424 passes for 3,667 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The injury leaves New England, which traded running back Laurence Maroney to Denver last week, thin at running back.
