MLB: Cincinnati 4, Milwaukee 3

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Edinson Volquez held Milwaukee to one run over eight innings Tuesday and the Cincinnati Reds moved closer to a division crown with a 4-3 win over the Brewers.

Volquez (4-3) yielded only three hits, issuing four walks and striking out six to help the first-place Reds reduce their magic number to clinch their first National League Central since 1995 to four.

Jim Edmonds pounded a second-inning solo homer and the Reds got RBI from Chris Heisey, Scott Rolen and Miguel Cairo.

Francisco Cordero earned his 38th save of the season despite getting into trouble in the ninth. He struck out Carlos Gomez to end the game.

Milwaukee starter Dave Bush (7-13) absorbed the loss, surrendering four runs (two earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.
