MIAMI, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Chicago Cubs outfielder Tyler Colvin, who was impaled by a piece of a broken bat Sunday, was released from a Miami hospital Wednesday, the team said.

Colvin was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami after his chest cavity was penetrated by the flying shard of a bat broken by teammate Wellington Castillo during a game against the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium.

The 25-year-old rookie was treated to prevent a collapsed lung after the wooden shard allowed air to enter his chest wall.

The team said Colvin would return to his home in South Carolina and is done for the season.

Colvin ended the year hitting .254 with 20 homers and 56 RBI in 135 games for the Cubs.
