Mich. State Coach Dantonio hospitalized

EAST LANSING, Mich., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Michigan State head football Coach Mark Dantonio was hospitalized and underwent a heart procedure early Sunday, university officials said.

A statement released by Michigan State said Dantonio suffered symptoms consistent with a heart attack and was admitted to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, where doctors inserted a metallic stent to open a blocked blood vessel leading to his heart.

"The procedure was successful and blood flow to the heart muscle was restored," Dr. Chris D'Haem said in the statement. "I'm very pleased with the outcome of the procedure. Coach Dantonio is resting comfortably following his procedure and is expected to make a full recovery."

Dantonio, 54, suffered the cardiac episode shortly after his Michigan State Spartans eked out a 34-31 overtime victory over Notre Dame thanks to a fake field goal that resulted in a touchdown.
