CARSON, Calif., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Landon Donovan scored twice late, lifting the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-1 Major League Soccer victory over D.C. United Saturday.
Seventeen-year-old Andy Najar had given United, which has the worst record in the league, a 1-0 lead at the hour mark when he rammed the ball into the right corner of the net from the penalty area.
That's the way it stayed until the final 9 minutes of the match when Donovan first when he gathered in a long pass behind the D.C. defenders, went around goalkeeper Matt Pickens and put the ball in the open net.
Five minutes later, Donovan headed a Tristan Bowen cross over Pickens for his seventh goal of the seasons.
Los Angeles improved to 15-5-5 with the win, while United fell to 5-17-3.
