SEATTLE, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Cliff Lee held the Mariners to one run through eight innings Saturday and the Texas Rangers posted a 6-1 victory over Seattle.

Lee (12-8) was dominant, limiting the Mariners to six hits and one walk, striking out eight in his first start against his former team, who dealt him to the Rangers in mid-season.

Bengie Molina went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs for Texas, which with the win and Oakland's loss to Minnesota Saturday saw its magic number to clinch the American League West drop to six.

Seattle starter Jason Vargas (9-11) took the defeat, surrendering five runs on nine hits in innings.
