
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Matt LaPorta hit a grand slam homer to highlight a five-run fourth inning Saturday in the Cleveland Indians' 6-4 victory over Kansas City.
Shin-Soo Choo added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Indians, who prevailed in a 6-hour contest that was delayed twice by rain at Kauffman Stadium.
Joe Smith (2-2) got the win with scoreless seventh inning after the Royals scored four in the fifth to pull to within 5-4.
Chris Perez notched his 21st save in the ninth.
Mike Aviles went 3-for-5 with a home run and a pair of RBI and Jarrod Dyson added three hits for Kansas City, which dropped its second straight in a three-game set with the Indians.
Royals starter Sean O'Sullivan (2-6) was touched for five runs on six hits in a four-inning outing.
