MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Danny Valencia homered for the second straight game to back Kevin Slowey's strong start Saturday and the Minnesota Twins downed Oakland 4-2.

Valencia's three-run blast in the sixth inning broke open a 1-1 tie and allowed the first-place Twins to even their three-game series with the A's at one win apiece.

A solo shot by the rookie third baseman in Friday's game provided the Twins' only offense in their 3-1 loss at Target Field.

Slowey (13-6) held the A's to two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out eight. It was the second straight effective game against Oakland for the Twins right-hander, who tossed seven no-hit frames against the A's on Aug. 15.

Dallas Braden (9-13) surrendered four runs on eight hits in six innings of work for Oakland, walking four in dropping his fourth straight start.

Landon Powell homered among his two hits for the A's.
