SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers had only one hit Tuesday but beat the San Francisco Giants 1-0 behind Clayton Kershaw's four-hitter.
Kershaw (12-10) went the distance for his first win in four starts and the Giants ended the day 1 1/2 games out of first place in the National League West.
Kershaw faced 30 batters and threw 111 pitches in his first career complete game.
Barry Zito (12-10) lost his ninth consecutive decision despite a sparkling 5 2/3 innings in which he gave up one run on one hit and three walks and struck out five. The only hit was a second-inning single by Matt Kemp, who was promptly thrown out trying to steal second.
The Dodgers scored their only run in the sixth. Reed Johnson was hit by a pitch with one out. He moved to second on Kershaw's sacrifice bunt. After Zito walked the next two batters, Casey Blake bounced a ball that was booted by shortstop Juan Uribe, allowing Johnson to race home.
