CINCINNATI, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Drew Stubbs highlighted a four-run first with a two-run homer Wednesday and the Cincinnati Reds held on to defeat Arizona 7-5.

The game was in doubt until Jay Bruce, with a runner on base and two away, leaped high against the right-field wall to catch a drive by Adam LaRoche and end the contest.

Orlando Cabrera had three doubles and scored each time he reached base, helping the Reds move 20 games above .500. They began the night with a seven-game lead over second-place St. Louis in the National League Central.

Cincinnati opened an early 5-0 lead before the Diamondbacks rallied to within 5-4. The Reds then scored two runs in the eighth -- Jonny Gomes driving one in single and scoring the other when Ryan Hanigan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Francisco Cordero came on in the ninth to protect a three-run lead but gave up a run and had a runner on second when Bruce made his dazzling, game-ending catch. Cordero picked up his 36th save.

Reliever Matt Maloney (1-2) allowed only a solo homer in 2 1/3 innings to get the win.

Joe Saunders (2-6) was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 7 1/3 innings.
