MLB: Boston 5, Seattle 1

SEATTLE, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Clay Buchholz settled down after giving up a first-inning homer Wednesday and Boston completed a three-game sweep with a 5-1 win over Seattle.

Russell Branyan gave Seattle a brief lead with his 25th homer in the opening inning, after which Buchholz (16-7) surrendered only three more hits over seven innings. The Red Sox, who began the evening 6 2/ games out of first place in the American League wild card race, won their fourth straight.

Adrian Beltre tied it with a home run in the fourth and Boston went in front in the sixth when David Ortiz came in from third with an unearned run on a fielding error by Chone Figgins at second base.

Victor Martinez had an RBI double in the seventh and Ryan Kalish tripled in another run in the eighth.

David Pauley (2-8) suffered the setback loss after giving up two runs on six hits in six innings. It was Seattle's seventh straight loss.
