Bush's Heisman Trophy won't be re-awarded

NEW YORK, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The Heisman Trophy forfeited by former Southern California running back Reggie Bush won't be given to anyone else, award trustees said Wednesday.

Bush returned his 2005 Heisman this week in the wake of an NCAA investigation of USC that resulted in harsh sanctions against the school, including the vacation of the Trojans' 2005 national championship.

Speculation had been mounting about whether the Trust would give the trophy instead to 2005 runner-up Vince Young of Texas, but the group scotched the idea in a statement released Wednesday.

"As a result of Reggie Bush's decision to forfeit his title as Heisman winner of 2005, the Trustees have determined that there will be no Heisman Trophy winner for the year 2005," it said.

Texas head Coach Mack Brown had come out in favor of giving Bush's forfeited award to Young, but the former Texas quarterback indicated Wednesday in a Twitter post he wasn't interested.
