ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Bobby Abreu's home run in the bottom of the 14th inning Friday boosted the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Abreu drilled the first pitch he saw from Brian Sweeney (1-2) over the wall in center field in giving the Angels their second extra-inning win in as many games. Los Angeles beat Cleveland 4-3 in 16 innings on Wednesday.

Seattle tied the score with two runs in the ninth as the Angels' bullpen failed to hold the lead for starter Jered Weaver, who allowed five hits and one run in eight innings.

Reliever Fernando Rodney got the first out in the ninth but Seattle's Franklin Gutierrez singled and Jose Lopez and Casey Kotchman came through with back-to-back RBI doubles that tied the score.

The Angels didn't allow a hit after that. Rich Thompson (1-0) got his first major-league win with the final two innings of perfect relief.

Howard Kendrick and Jeff Mathis had fourth-inning RBI that put Los Angeles up. Seattle made it 2-1 the following inning with Michael Saunders singling in a run but the Angeles went back up by two in the sixth when Erick Aybar scored on a squeeze play executed by Jeff Mathis.
