DENVER, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- A bases-loaded triple by Miguel Olivo highlighted a six-run third Friday and the Colorado Rockies continued a late-season surge with a 13-4 pounding of Arizona.
The Rockies won their eighth in a row, having begun the night 3 1/2 games behind first-place San Diego in the National League West. Colorado trails Atlanta by 3 1/2 games in the wild-card race.
Colorado produced 15 hits, four of them coming in the sixth inning. Troy Tulowitzki had driven in a run with a double and Todd Helton had drawn a bases-loaded walk before Olivo drove the ball to deep center for his three-run triple.
Olivo later scored on a double by starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa to give the Rockies an 8-1 lead. Tulowitzki added solo homers in both the fourth and sixth, boosting his total for the year to 20.
De La Rosa (7-4) lasted six innings to get the win. He struck out 10 and gave up two runs on five hits.
Joe Saunders (8-15) was roughed up for four earned runs on five hits while retiring only seven batters.
