Kaymer takes 1-shot KLM Open lead

HILVERSUM, Netherlands, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Martin Kaymer birdied the final hole Saturday, taking a 1-shot lead after three rounds of the KLM Open in his first start since winning the PGA Championship.

Kaymer, who claimed the championship at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin last month, shot out of greenside bunker on the 18th and put the ball to within a foot of the pin. He then sank the ensuing birdie putt to finish with a 4-under 66, giving him a 10-under 200 for the week.

That was one shot better than Fabrizio Zanotti (65) and Christian Nilsson (68), who completed 54 holes at the Hilversumsche course at minus-9.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano (67), Shiv Kapur (70) and Nicolas Colsaerts (70) were all knotted in fourth place at 8-under 202.

Kaymer, who has seven career European Tour wins, is looking for his third crown this season. In addition to winning the PGA, he also took the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in January.
