COL FB: Alabama 24, Penn State 3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Trent Richardson bulled his way for a career-high 144 yards and a touchdown Saturday in No. 1 Alabama's 24-3 defeat of No. 14 Penn State.

Greg McElroy threw two touchdown passes, finishing with an efficient 16-of-24 passing performance and finding Richardson on four passes for 46 yards for the Crimson Tide (2-0).

Alabama racked up 409 total yards of offense to 279 for the Nittany Lions in the first meeting between the storied programs in 20 years.

Penn State quarterback Robert Bolden tossed a pair of interceptions en route to a 13-of-29 passing night, good for 144 yards. Top rusher Evan Royster had an off night, gaining only 32 yards on nine carries.

Penn State (1-1) was hampered by a pair of first-half, red-zone turnovers.
