N.Y. Jets sued over fans' alleged assault

NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- New York Jets fans threw beer on a teenage New England Patriots fan and assaulted her mother for waving a Patriot sign at a Jets game, a lawsuit alleges.

Randy and Michelle Munoz of Montgomery, N.Y., are suing the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority in federal court in New Jersey over the actions of allegedly drunken Jets fans at a September 2009 game between the Jets and Patriots, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

The couple and their three children attended the game, where Jets fans allegedly cursed and threw beer at daughter Danielle Munoz, 14, who wore a Patriots jersey.

The Munozes say they talked to security about the behavior of the fans but officers refused to act.

As the game continued, the lawsuit says, fans punched and kicked Michelle Munoz for waving an "I Love Tom Brady" sign. Brady is the Patriots' quarterback.

The suit seeks unspecified damages.

The Jets and the sports authority declined to comment, the Daily News said.
