SAN DIEGO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Nick Hundley homered and drove in two runs Monday, helping San Diego beat the LA Dodgers to snap a 10-game skid and stay in first in the National League West.
The Padres, who broke their longest losing streak since a franchise record 13 straight in 1994, hold a one-game edge over San Francisco, which downed Arizona 2-0 in 11 innings earlier in the day.
"I think there was a big exhale," Padres Manager Bud Black said. "But again, I think our guys know they have to prepare for another game. They know what month we're in."
The Padres also got a run when Adrian Gonzalez scored on a fielder's choice grounder by Will Venable and David Eckstein added an insurance sacrifice fly in the seventh inning for San Diego.
Tim Stauffer went four innings in an emergency start for Mat Latos, who sat out with the stomach flu.
Mike Adams (3-1) pitched 1 2/3 innings for the win and Heath Bell threw the ninth for his 38th save this season.
The Dodgers' Vicente Padilla (6-5) was slapped with the loss, giving up three runs on five hits in four innings.
Scott Podsednik hit his first homer as a Dodger and Andre Ethier had an RBI single.
But the Dodgers went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position as they lost for the fifth time in six contests.
"Opportunities get away, and there's not much more to add to that," Dodgers Manager Joe Torre said. "We had nine hits and some situations we didn't deliver."
