PHOENIX, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Nate Schierholtz smacked a two-run triple in the 11th inning Monday, breaking a scoreless tie and handing the San Francisco Giants a 2-0 win over Arizona.
Aubrey Huff and Buster Posey each got two-out singles off Aaron Heilman (5-7) and Schierholtz followed by lining pitch into the right center field gap and all the way to the wall, scoring both runners and boosting the Giants to a key victory.
Second-place San Francisco entered the game one game behind slumping San Diego in the National League West. They pulled to within a game of Philadelphia in the NL wild card race with the win, their fifth in six games.
Huff and Edgar Renteria each ended with two hits and Giants starter Madison Bumgarner shut out the Diamondbacks for 7 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and a walk while fanning seven.
Santiago Casilla (6-2) ended up with the win and Brian Wilson nailed down his 41st save.
Arizona starter Ian Kennedy threw eight scoreless frames, yielding just two hits and two walks while striking out six.
