MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Michael Cuddyer socked a two-run, first-inning double Sunday and the Minnesota Twins went on to defeat Texas 6-5, completing a three-game series sweep.
Denard Span drove in a pair of runs, and Orlando Hudson and J.J. Hardy each added an RBI for the Twins, whose bullpen surrendered three runs in the ninth but hung on for the victory.
The Twins maintained a 3 1/2-game lead over the second-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central. The surging Chisox also competed a three-game weekend sweep, downing the Boston Red Sox.
Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn (9-9) surrendered six hits and two runs over seven innings to pick up the victory.
Matt Capps got his ninth Twins save but it didn't come easy. He caught a break when third base umpire Alfonso Marquez ruled Michael Young out to end the game for inadvertently touching third-base coach Dave Anderson after Vladimir Guerrero's RBI single.
Texas starter C.J. Wilson (14-6) was touched for seven hits and six runs in 5 1/3 frames.
