BALTIMORE, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Corey Patterson blasted a third-inning homer and Nick Markakis had two RBI Sunday in the Baltimore Orioles' 8-7 victory over Tampa Bay.

Brian Roberts went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs for the Orioles, who took the rubber match of a three-game series at Camden Yards and have won six of their last nine.

Alfredo Simon (4-2) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to get credit for the victory and Koji Uehara hurled a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his sixth save.

Despite the loss, the Rays remained in second place 2 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees.

Tampa Bay got two-run homers from Evan Longoria, B.J. Upton and Rocco Baldelli in the defeat, while Dan Wheeler (2-2) absorbed the loss, giving up two runs on two walks in the sixth.
