Jimenez hangs on for Euro Masters victory

CRANS MONTANA, Switzerland, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Miguel Angel Jimenez shot a 5-under 68 and managed to hang on to win the European Masters Sunday after nearly dissipating a 6-stroke lead.

Jimenez led runner-up Edoardo Molinari by six shots on the back nine, but Molinari charged to within one stroke of the lead after making an eagle on the 15th at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland.

Molinari, however, bogeyed 16 and Jimenez recovered with a birdie on No. 17 to re-establish a comfortable lead. The Spaniard collected his 18th tour win, finishing 21-under-par 263.

Molinari, meanwhile, shot 4-under 67 to take second three back at minus-18.

After becoming the youngest player ever to make a European Tour cut, 17-year-old Matteo Manassero carded a 3-under 68 to take third at 16-under 268.

Seung-yul Noh (67) grabbed sole possession of fourth place at minus-13 and four other finished knotted in a fifth-place one shot further back.
