CHICAGO, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Omar Gonzalez connected on a stoppage time goal Saturday, enabling the Los Angeles Galaxy to forge a 1-1 draw with Chicago.

Collins John had raised the hopes of the Fire when he got the game's first goal in the 88th minute. John, who just entered the match, powered the ball around the Galaxy's wall and into the bottom-right corner from 22 yards out.

But Los Angeles responded in stoppage time. Landon Donovan delivered to the ball to Gonzalez from the corner and he soared to reach it near the edge of the 6-yard box, putting a strong header past Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

With the late goal, the Galaxy (13-5-5) avoided their fourth loss in their last five games.

Chicago (6-7-7) are winless in three straight outings.
