
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Todd Helton drove in the go-ahead runs with a third-inning single Saturday and the Colorado Rockies dealt San Diego its ninth straight loss, 6-2.
Carlos Gonzalez also collected a pair of RBI and Troy Tulowitzki had two hits and scored two runs for the Rockies, who clinched their three-game series over the reeling Padres with the victory.
Jason Hammel (10-7) allowed two runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work, walking one and striking out three to collect the win.
Jon Garland (13-10) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings and Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Hundley each doubled home a run for San Diego.
The Padres entered the game with a dwindling three-game lead over second-place San Francisco in the National League West.
