Former NBA player Orlando Woolridge arrested for theft

PHOENIX, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The Arizona Cardinals released quarterback Matt Leinart Saturday, cutting down their roster to the 53-player maximum.
Leinart was the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner and No. 10 overall pick in the 2006 draft. The signal-caller had been tabbed as the Cardinals' first-stringer but was demoted by head Coach Ken Whisenhunt during the preseason.
Instead, former Cleveland Brown Derek Anderson now has the starting quarterback job.
Leinart compiled a 7-10 record over parts of four seasons as Arizona's starter, tossing 14 touchdown passes and 20 interceptions and compiling a 70.8 career passer rating.
Backing up Anderson will be rookies Max Hall (BYU) and John Skelton (Fordham).
