Nationwide to sponsor PGA's Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Nationwide Insurance said it would end its sponsorship of the PGA Tour's developmental tournaments but will be a sponsor at the main tour's Memorial Tournament.

Nationwide has been the sponsor of the developmental tour since 2003 and has two seasons to run on its contract. It said it wouldn't seek to renew the deal once it ends after the 2012 schedule. PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said he didn't anticipate problems in finding a new sponsor.

Nationwide Chief Marketing Officer Jim Lyski said the company was happy with the developmental tour arrangement but the chance to be the presenting sponsor of the Memorial was "too good an opportunity to pass."

The Memorial is hosted by Jack Nicklaus and contested in Dublin, Ohio, not far from Nationwide headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.
