NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki ran her winning streak to 12 matches Thursday, easily reaching the third round of the U.S. Open.

Wozniacki, who has captured her last two tournaments, stormed past Kai-Chen Chang 6-0, 6-0 in a second-round match that lasted only 47 minutes. Wozniacki will next meet Yung-Jan Chan, her second straight opponent from Taiwan.

Former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic and Maria Sharapova advanced Thursday and Andrea Petkovic ended the hopes of American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The fourth-seeded Jankovic has struggled this summer, having lost five of her last seven matches, but she made it into the third round with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Mirjana Lucic.

Sharapova made quick work of her evening match, dispensing Iveta Benesova 6-1, 6-2.

Petkovic came back from the loss of the first set to defeat Mattek-Sands 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Mattek-Sands had been trying to reach the third round of a grand slam event for the first time in her career.

Vera Zvonareva, runner-up at Wimbledon this year, opened the play in Arthur Ashe Stadium Thursday by downing Sabine Lisicki 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Svetlana Kuznetsova, twice a major championship winner, ousted Anastasija Sevastova 6-2, 6-3.
