NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia became the first 19-game winner this season with a one-hitter over eight innings Thursday in the New York Yankees' 5-0 win over Oakland.
Sabathia (19-5) increased his string of unbeaten starts at home to 21 appearances, a streak that dates to July 18, 2009.
Mark Ellis singled to lead off the second in what turned out to the only hit for Oakland, which was swept in the four-game series in New York. Sabathia walked three and struck out five.
Curtis Granderson hit two home runs and Jorge Posada had a solo homer to account for the bulk of the Yankees' offense.
Posada's home run came in the second off Oakland starter Dallas Braden (9-10). Braden left the game in the sixth inning because of cramps caused by the heat. It was more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit on the field.
Granderson greeted reliever Jerry Blevins with his first home run of the day and added a two-run homer in the seventh. New York got a run-scoring single by Austin Kearns in the eighth to complete the scoring.
